The Jim Thompson Art Center presents a lecture “Traditional Lao culture and hand-woven textile” by Doungdaeune Boonyavong, a 2006 S.E.A. WRITE Laureate. She will lecture on her numerous years of research on traditional Lao culture and hand-woven textiles.

Douangdeuane Bounyavong
Ms. Douangdeuane Bounyavong is a poet, novelist, and a leading figure in the promotion of Lao culture, particularly regarding the subject of hand-woven textiles. She was awarded an Art and Cultural prize from the 19th Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize in 2005, and was named SEA Write Awards Laureate from the best literary work from the Lao PDR. She has held textile exhibits and workshops in Thailand, the United States, France and Japan, in addition to Laos. Her research on traditional Lao literary works has also included references to textiles and women as the producer of textiles. She is director of a private library dedicated in honor of her father, Maha Sila Viravongs.
